Clock Phase of Auction 102 Ends
The FCC’s second millimeter wave auction (24 MHz) Clock Phase has ended after 91 rounds, generating $1.989 billion in gross proceeds. “Following on the strong demand in Auction 101, Auction 102 demonstrated the strong appetite for large bands of spectrum that can help fulfill the promise of 5G. Throughout the country, bidders continue to recognize the need for more spectrum to satisfy our nation’s growing demand for wireless data services,” noted Ari Meltzer, partner at Wiley Rein LLP.
“Winning bidders placed real value in the 24 GHz and 28 GHz spectrum being auctioned, bidding almost $2.7 billion in recognition of the importance this spectrum will have in being able to deliver future high-speed and high-capacity data to American consumers. The FCC received numerous bids for most licenses, with bids reaching prices that rivaled (and in some cases exceeded) those reportedly paid in private 28 GHz transactions,” said Rick Engelman, engineering consultant at Wiley Rein LLP.
