Caleb Burns Talks with Fox News About 2018 Midterm Elections
Caleb P. Burns, a partner in Wiley Rein’s Election Law & Government Ethics Practice, spoke with Fox News about the battle for control of the U.S. House of Representatives in the 2018 midterm elections. The August 21 televised report featuring Mr. Burns, and the accompanying article, can be found here.
Democrats are seeking to pick up as many as 80 House seats currently held by Republicans, but many congressional districts have been redrawn by Republican-controlled state legislatures, according to the report.
“Big data has been harnessed to draw these maps with real precision, on a block-by-block, house-by-house basis,” Mr. Burns said. “We’ve seen, over the last eight years, the number of competitive districts go from about 100 to about two dozen. And that, by and large, is the result of political gerrymandering.”
