Washington Lawyer Profiles the Distinguished Career of Chairman Richard E. Wiley in “Legends in the Law” Series
Wiley Rein Chairman Richard E. Wiley was selected for a profile in the September issue of Washington Lawyer’s iconic “Legends in the Law” series. The luminous career of Mr. Wiley—described as a “superstar,” one of the “decade’s most influential lawyers,” a Washington, DC “power broker” and the “father of HDTV”—is outlined in his own words.
The feature Q&A explores Mr. Wiley’s rich professional life, noting his leadership in building the country’s foremost communications practice, his business acumen as a founding partner for a firm The National Law Journal described as “a pillar of the Washington legal establishment” and his decade-long pro bono work heading up the FCC’s Advisory Committee on HDTV in the development of the nation’s standard for high-definition television, for which he received two Emmy® Awards. A lifelong teacher and mentor, Mr. Wiley concluded with: “The truth is that with organization, discipline and enthusiasm, there is time for everything in life, and…I intend to continue to try and do it all.”
Washington Lawyer, a District of Columbia Bar publication, periodically profiles “Legends in the Law,” who are selected by the DC Bar’s Publications Committee on the basis of their “prominence” and “individual impact on the law and the legal profession.” Only 57 such interviews have been conducted since the founding of the DC Bar 40 years ago.
Mr. Wiley has received numerous accolades throughout his storied career, including being named a Washington “Visionary” by The National Law Journal, the “most influential media and telecommunications lawyer in the United States” by the International Herald Tribune and one of the top “100 Men of the Century” by Broadcasting & Cable.
