Chambers USA Names Wiley Rein’s Election Law Practice Among Best in the Nation for Eighth Straight Year; Jan W. Baran and Michael E. Toner Receive Top Tier Honors

May 28, 2013

For the eighth consecutive year, Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business ranks Wiley Rein’s Election Law & Government Ethics Practice in its top tier. Practice co-chairs Jan Witold Baran and Michael E. Toner and partner Caleb P. Burns are recognized as “Leading Lawyers.”

The group is one of only two firms in the nation to receive special recognition for its client service. One source praises the team for giving “prompt, practical advice on short notice,” adding that “we have a very high opinion of them.” Clients say that the group’s depth is one its strong suits, noting that “all are experts in their fields.”

Chambers says the “exceptional” Mr. Baran is a distinguished practitioner, who is described by his peers as “both counselor and teacher to his clients.” In ranking Mr. Baran in its prestigious top tier for an eighth straight year, Chambers notes he represented the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in an important political speech and First Amendment case before the Supreme Court of the United States.

The directory ranks Mr. Toner, a former chairman of the Federal Election Commission, in its top tier for a third consecutive year. Chambers describes Mr. Toner as “excellent” and adds that he is recognized especially for his work with Republican clients.

Chambers reports Mr. Burns has impressed clients, who say that “he’s just a real expert in the political law arena.” Sources praise Mr. Burns’ “instantaneous guidance,” adding that he is “right on top of the latest developments in this very complex area.”

The Chambers ratings are based on extensive interviews of law firms’ clients, colleagues and competitors. Inclusion in the directory is determined through a rigorous vetting process.
