FCC Extends C-Band FSS Earth Station Registration Deadline
The Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC or Commission) International Bureau released a Public Notice extending the filing window by two weeks for Fixed-Satellite Service (FSS) earth stations operating in the 3.7-4.2 GHz band. Registrations are now due October 31, 2018.
In April 2018, the FCC initiated a temporary freeze on applications for new or modified FSS earth station licenses in the 3.7-4.2 GHz band. The Commission granted a 90-day exemption to allow existing FSS earth station owners and operators (i.e., those that have been constructed and operational as of April 19, 2018) to license or register their earth station. The increased volume of applications towards the end of the 90-day filing window created difficulties for the International Bureau Filing System (IBFS). To address concerns that some applicants may have been unable to license or register their earth stations, the FCC has extended the window through October 31. Additional information on the temporary freeze is available here.
