Joshua Turner Quoted in Forbes Article about Unmanned Aircraft Systems
Joshua S. Turner, co-chair of Wiley Rein’s Communications Enforcement & Compliance Group, was quoted yesterday in a Forbes article about an appeals court’s dismissal of a case involving an email that an unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) operator received from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit ruled July 18 that the email wasn’t subject to judicial review because it had no legal effect.
The court’s order “expresses no views on the merits of FAA’s position that existing rules bar commercial UAV operation,” Mr. Turner said. “It doesn’t say anything about the FAA regulations. All it says is that this procedural route isn’t open to you.” He added that Congress has directed the FAA “to establish a roadmap for getting UAS integrated into the national airspace.”
