Robert Walker Discusses Case Against New York State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver
Robert L. Walker, of counsel in Wiley Rein’s Election Law & Government Ethics Practice, was quoted by Pro Publica in an article published yesterday about New York state Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, who was arrested last week on federal corruption charges and his alleged involvement in changing a rent regulation.
According to the article, the indictment states that Mr. Silver met with a lobbyist advocating, on behalf of a developer, for amendments to the Rent Act of 2011. While the complaint offers only limited information on the alleged wrongdoing, prosecutors will likely reveal more if the case goes to trial.
“Some more favorable treatment specifically by Mr. Silver towards the developers in question will have to be proven, something more concrete than speculation that he was less unfavorable towards the real estate industry in general than he could have been,” Mr. Walker told Pro Publica.
