David Weslow Discusses ICANN's Uniform Rapid Suspension System

Bloomberg BNA's Electronic Commerce & Law Report
February 20, 2015

David E. Weslow, a partner in Wiley Rein’s Intellectual Property Practice, was quoted today by Bloomberg BNA’s Electronic Commerce & Law Report, in an article about the Uniform Rapid Suspension System (URS), a new dispute resolution procedure that is mandatory for all new generic top-level domains (gTLDs) such as .clothing, .email, and .xyz.

The URS provides trademark owners with a faster, less costly path to obtain the disabling of domain names in clear-cut cases of cybersquatting.

Mr. Weslow filed one of the earliest cases under the URS and discussed with Bloomberg BNA the burden of proof under the URS and other strategic considerations for trademark owners when considering a URS proceeding or other type of anti-cybersquatting action.
