Public Policy Consultant Nova Daly Talks on Huawei and Cyber Policy
Public policy consultant, and former head of the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), Nova Daly commented on the ongoing issues between the Chinese telecommunications company Huawei and CFIUS. CFIUS had reviewed Huawei's acquisition of 3-Leaf Systems, a server technology firm based in San Francisco and ultimately requested that the company divest the transaction. Huawei eventually agreed with the CFIUS recommendation, but published an appeal to the U.S. government to further investigate any national security issues related to the company. While concerns about Huawei remain, many in Washington recognize that there are larger national security issues that must be addressed-namely those associated with U.S. cyber security. "The cyber side is where the real national-security issues are growing exponentially, the vulnerabilities created by the global supply chain," Mr. Daly-a former Treasury Deputy Assistant Secretary for CFIUS-said. "We need clear cyberpolicy from the administration and Congress," he concluded.
