Caleb Burns Comments on Gov. Pence Being Named as Trump’s Running Mate
Caleb P. Burns, a partner in Wiley Rein’s Election Law & Government Ethics Practice, was quoted in a July 15 FoxNews.com article on presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump naming Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as his vice-presidential running mate. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich were also being considered for the position.
“Pence is a through-and-through conservative,” said Mr. Burns, adding Gov. Pence could “energize the workhorses of the party.”
“Given the options, Pence was the really the only one who delivered any amount of value to the campaign. …There was no real constituency that either Gingrich or Christie would have given you -- neither geographically nor in some pocket of the party,” Mr. Burns added.
