Tessa Capeloto Discusses Impact of DOJ’s Increased FARA Enforcement

Law360
June 11, 2018

Tessa Capeloto, of counsel in Wiley Rein’s International Trade Practice, was quoted in a June 8 Law360 article on the increased enforcement of the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). The Justice Department released a host of advisory opinions that day, which covered a variety of scenarios to provide guidance on who needs to disclose what types of work and register with the DOJ as a “foreign agent.”

“I think both FARA practitioners and those entities/individuals that could potentially fall within the scope of the FARA statute should be interested,” Ms. Capeloto said. “I think how DOJ is interpreting the exemptions set forth in the FARA statute is particularly instructive.”
