Wiley Rein Named a Top Firm for LGBTQ Workplace Equality by Human Rights Campaign

March 28, 2019

Washington, DC – For the fourth consecutive year, the Human Rights Campaign Foundation (HRC) has awarded Wiley Rein LLP a perfect score of 100% on its 2019 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), a national benchmarking survey on corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ workplace equality. Only 571 major U.S. businesses earned those top marks on this year’s prestigious list. Wiley Rein was one of 114 law firms nationally, and 12 law firms in the Washington, DC area, that received a 100% score.

“We are proud of our consistent record of earning a perfect score on this important annual list,” said Wiley Rein Managing Partner Peter D. Shields. “The HRC report reflects our commitment to ensuring an inclusive environment for all, where we celebrate each other’s differences and welcome diverse points of view.”

Wiley Rein embraces diversity and inclusion as core values and participates in numerous professional development and outreach initiatives – including hosting an annual reception in support of LGBTQ Pride Month, sponsoring the National Association for Law Placement/Street Law Legal Diversity Pipeline Program, and organizing Women in Government Contracting (WiGC) events. Last year, the firm received the AT&T Legal Department Diversity and Inclusion Pipeline Award, was named among the “Best Firms for Minority Attorneys” by Law360, and was honored by Working Mother as one of the “Best Law Firms for Women.”

The firm has several groups that support its diversity efforts, including the LGBT & Allies Lawyers Affinity Group, chaired by Shawn H. Chang, and the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee, chaired by Anna M. Gomez. Please click here to learn more about the firm’s diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.

The 2019 CEI evaluates LGBTQ-related policies and practices including nondiscrimination workplace protections, domestic partner benefits, transgender-inclusive health care benefits, competency programs, and public engagement. HRC is America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender equality.
