Wiley Rein Mourns the Loss of Partner Andrew S. Krulwich

It is with great sadness that Wiley Rein announces the death of our good friend and partner Andrew S. Krulwich after a long illness.  Managing Partner Richard E. Wiley said, “Andy will be remembered not just as a first-rate attorney, but as a gentleman, in every sense of the word.  He was an integral part of the Wiley Rein family and he will be dearly missed.  Our heartfelt condolences and thoughts are with Andy’s family.” 

Mr. Krulwich was chair of the firm’s Food & Drug and Product Safety Practice, an area of law in which he practiced for more than 30 years.  His was a diverse legal practice, and he represented a broad range of clients in numerous high-profile matters.   Long-time colleague and friend, senior partner Bert W. Rein said, “Andy’s keen legal mind was matched by his generous heart and warm personality.  He leaves a legacy notable as much for his character as for his many achievements.”

Mr. Krulwich’s personal accomplishments were equally notable, especially for his love of music.  A singer with the Washington Savoyards, a Gilbert and Sullivan opera company, he also served on the group’s Board of Directors.  On the occasion of his 60^th birthday, Mr. Krulwich performed Verdi’s Requiem at Trinity United Methodist Church in Alexandria, a performance that was profiled in The Washington Post.  At the time, the paper aptly said of him, “Calm and serious but with a sonorous voice, he commands a quiet respect, both professionally and backstage.”

Mr. Krulwich joined Wiley Rein in 1986, having already established himself as a distinguished private practitioner and public servant.  A former General Counsel to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Mr. Krulwich chaired the Editorial Advisory Board of the Food and Drug Law Journal.  He received his LL.B. from Columbia Law School and his B.A. from Columbia College; he also was a graduate of the Cambridge Institute of Criminology.

Funeral services will be held May 12 at 12:30 pm at Ohr Kodesh Congregation (8300 Meadowbrook Lane, Chevy Chase, MD).  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to United Jewish Appeal-Federation of Jewish Philanthropies of New York (130 East 59^th Street, New York, NY 10022).
