Wiley Rein Hosts Charity Auction

December 23, 2009

Wiley Rein attorneys and staff took part in a holiday fundraising event last week with proceeds going to charity.  The firm's first-ever live auction raised more than $16,000 for philanthropies including the Calvary Women's Shelter, DC Central Kitchens, the Washington Animal Rescue League, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the Salvation Army and the Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless.

"Rather than hold our traditional holiday party, this year the firm decided to focus on helping the community by raising money for charitable organizations," said Managing Partner Richard E. Wiley.  "I was thrilled by the wonderful turnout and the outpouring of generosity from members of the firm, who opened their hearts and wallets, and from our local business partners, whose contributed items made this event such a success."

The auction, held Thursday, December17, opened with participants able to bid silently on prizes ranging from sports tickets and travel packages to smaller, personalized gifts.  An item's initial silent bid was then used as a starting point for live auctioning, with lawyers and staff left to raise the stakes.

Winning bidders designated a charity of their choice to receive the proceeds of their purchase.
