Wiley Rein Named an "International Trade Group of the Year" by Law360
Wiley Rein's International Trade Practice was named an "International Trade Group of the Year" by Law360, and co-chair Alan Price and partners Timothy Brightbill and Dan Pickard were quoted in the publication discussing their practice. As reported by Law360, the group "scored high-profile victories for clients including Maverick Tube Corp. and the Diamond Sawblades Manufacturers Coalition last year, which helped earn the team a place among Law360's International Trade Groups of 2010." According to Mr. Price, the practice "has unusually strong capabilities in virtually every facet of the practice and deals with anti-dumping and countervailing duty cases, World Trade Organization dispute resolution, export control and customs issues, merger and acquisition regulatory issues, and international arbitration, among other things."
Mr. Pickard was identified as being "key in winning two favorable U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit rulings stemming from an anti-dumping case brought on behalf the Diamond Sawblades Manufacturers Coalition." Mr. Pickard represented the Coalition before the Federal Circuit in both appeals. He described the matter as "an exceptional case" and noted that the International Trade Commission's reversal of an earlier decision, along with the U.S. Court of International Trade giving the Commerce Department a writ of mandamus, were both unusual occurrences. "The writ of mandamus is one of the rarest and most extraordinary forms of relief that can be issued from a court, and the writ of mandamus in this case may have very well saved many of the domestic producers and kept them in business because they had been forced to compete against unfairly priced imports from Korea and China," Mr. Pickard explained.
The publication also singled out the group's work on behalf of Maverick Tubular in a Chinese oil country tubular goods dumping case, and Mr. Brightbill noted the team's continued work on "major trade litigation for Nucor, the largest steel producer in the U.S., including maintaining anti-dumping and countervailing duty orders for hot-rolled steel, steel plate and corrosion-resistant steel, among other products."
The International Trade Practice was one of five groups selected by a team of Law360 editors who received more than 400 submissions. Law360 based its selection on the number of significant wins and the size, number and complexity of deals.
