Wiley Rein's Intellectual Property Practice Ranked Among DC's Best by Chambers USA

June 11, 2012

Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business rates Wiley Rein as one of Washington, DC's best Trademark, Copyright & Trade Secrets firms.  Copyright Group chair Bruce G. Joseph and Patent Group chair James H. Wallace, Jr. are named "Leading Lawyers" in their respective fields.

Sources tell Chambers that the team is "well prepared and focused" and produces "top quality work."  The directory comments that the group's "considerable litigation experience is coupled with technical excellence in the communication, computer, internet applications, semiconductor, pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors."  In addition to the firm's patent evaluation and licensing experience, the directory reports that the group is "particularly highly regarded for its copyright and trademarks capabilities" and references its involvement in negotiating aspects of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act and in subsequent cases interpreting the Act's provisions.

Bruce Joseph is described by clients as one of the country's "foremost experts in copyright protection."  The directory recognizes recent work representing Verizon Wireless and Ericsson in litigation before the ASCAP Rate Court involving music license fees payable by wireless services.

James Wallace receives recognition for his work representing Mylan Pharmaceuticals in a number of patent infringement actions.  A source notes that "He managed the case like an orchestra; he was always on top of the situation."

The Chambers ratings are based on extensive interviews of law firms' clients, colleagues and competitors.  Inclusion in the directory is determined through a rigorous vetting process.
