Kathleen Kirby Elected to Governing Board of ABA's Forum on Communications Law

Kathleen A. Kirby, partner and chair of the Media Practice at Wiley Rein LLP, was elected to the Governing Board of ABA's Forum on Communications Law on Friday, February 6.  The Forum consists of a network of lawyers in the print, broadcast, online & mobile media, and telecommunications industries, who keep up to date with cutting-edge issues in defamation, privacy, commercial speech, freedom of information, data collection and use, Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulation, and First Amendment law.

"Membership in the ABA's Forum on Communications Law has been an integral part of my development as a lawyer," said Ms. Kirby.  "I have benefited both personally and professionally from being part of this richly knowledgeable and mentoring community of lawyers, and I look forward to playing a leading role in promoting the exchange of information among practitioners keen to keep abreast of developments and legal challenges in this fast-paced field of law."

Ms. Kirby's practice includes First Amendment advocacy before Congress and the FCC, and she represents media clients on a host of business, transactional, and  regulatory issues.  Ms. Kirby has been selected to receive the prestigious 2015 First Amendment Leadership Award from the Radio Television Digital News Foundation (RTDNF)-the educational arm of the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA)-which will be presented at a ceremony at the Grand Hyatt in Washington, DC on March 11, 2015.

Ms. Kirby also is a recipient of RTDNA's Rob Downey Citation, an inductee into the National Freedom of Information Hall of Fame, and serves on the Media Institute's First Amendment Advisory Council.  She has held leadership positions with both the Federal Communications and American Bar Associations, and has served as First Amendment counsel to RTDNA since 1994.
