Wiley Rein Attorneys Named Law360 "Rising Stars" for Insurance, International Trade

March 30, 2015

Law360 has named Wiley Rein attorneys John E. Howell and Maureen E. Thorson to its annual “Rising Stars” list in their respective practice areas of Insurance and International Trade. The highly competitive award recognizes attorneys under the age of 40 “whose legal accomplishments belie their age.”

Mr. Howell is a standout attorney in Wiley Rein’s prominent Insurance Practice, which represents many of the top insurers in the country and was once again named a “Practice Group of the Year” by Law360 for 2014. Mr. Howell primarily represents insurance companies in connection with coverage issues arising under professional liability policies and has played a key role in securing victories for clients in some of the industry’s most complex and closely watched cases. His experience includes counseling, litigation, and alternative dispute resolution involving directors and officers, financial institutions, lawyers, and other professional liability coverages.

Ms. Thorson is an integral part of the firm’s acclaimed International Trade Practice—a Law360 “Practice Group of the Year” for the past five years. Elevated to partner in 2014, Ms. Thorson handles matters in all areas of customs law and international trade litigation. She is a fierce advocate for domestic industries, specializing in antidumping and countervailing duty litigation before the U.S. Court of International Trade and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. She is also a licensed customs broker and acts as customs counsel to several multinational manufacturers that import retail and industrial products.

Editors at Law360 received a record 1,200 nominations before selecting 145 attorneys from 75 law firms spanning 29 practice areas. Law360 will publish individual feature profiles of Mr. Howell and Ms. Thorson in the coming weeks.
