Wiley Rein's Dorthula Powell-Woodson Elected to Second Term on American Health Lawyers Association Board

May 28, 2015

Dorthula H. Powell-Woodson, co-chair of Wiley Rein’s Health Care Practice, was recently elected to a second term on the Board of Directors of the American Health Lawyers Association (AHLA). Ms. Powell-Woodson is one of 10 elected board members who will begin their upcoming terms after the AHLA’s annual meeting in Washington, DC (June 27-July 1, 2015).

In her practice at Wiley Rein, Ms. Powell-Woodson counsels clients on health care and government procurements and contracting, contract administration, and state and federal regulatory compliance relating to complex prime, subcontract, and affiliate agreements. She focuses on these areas principally in connection with the Federal Employees Health Benefits, Medicare, TRICARE, and Medicaid programs, and also has extensive experience with commercial sector offerings.

Ms. Powell-Woodson has served in many different roles connected to the health care industry, including serving as the Governor’s appointed Director of Virginia’s health care agency, as a Virginia Assistant Attorney General (representing the Commonwealth’s Procurement Appeals Board), and as Vice President for Legal Services for two national health care entities.

Ms. Powell-Woodson—who was named an expert practitioner in the Guide to the Leading US Healthcare Lawyers—serves on Wiley Rein’s two governance committees, the Executive Committee and the Management Committee, and also serves as the firm’s partner in charge of lateral hiring.

The mission of the American Health Lawyers Association is to provide a collegial forum for interaction and information exchange to enable its members to serve their clients more effectively; to produce the highest quality non-partisan educational programs, products, and services concerning health law issues; and to serve as a public resource on selected health care legal issues.
