Joshua Turner Begins Term as Federal Communications Bar Association President

Washington, DC Joshua S. Turner, partner in Wiley Rein’s preeminent Telecom, Media & Technology (TMT) Practice, today began his term as President of the Federal Communications Bar Association (FCBA). In addition, Wiley Rein TMT partner Anna M. Gomez was recently elected Assistant Treasurer of the FCBA and began her term today.

Mr. Turner and Ms. Gomez are among the six FCBA officers whose one-year terms run through July 2020. At Wiley Rein, they also serve as co-chairs of the Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Practice. Mr. Turner also co-chairs the firm’s Communications Enforcement & Compliance Practice.

“I am honored to begin my service as FCBA President and to work with this great leadership team at such an exciting time in the field of communications and technology law,” Mr. Turner said. “I’m looking forward to a great year as we build on the tremendous opportunities the association offers our 2,000 members.”

Named one of DC’s “Super Lawyers” for Communications by Super Lawyers magazine, Mr. Turner represents clients in proceedings before the Federal Communications Commission, the Federal Aviation Administration, and other federal agencies, as well as in federal and state court actions. In addition to regularly advocating in front of federal agencies, he argues in federal appellate court as well as in federal district court and state court.

Mr. Turner is the most recent Wiley Rein partner to be serve as President of the FCBA. The firm’s past FCBA Presidents include Ambassador David A. Gross, co-chair of the TMT Practice; Peter D. Shields, Managing Partner of the firm; and Wiley Rein Founding Partner and Chairman Emeritus Richard E. Wiley.

In addition to the 2019-2020 FCBA leadership roles of Mr. Turner and Ms. Gomez, Wiley Rein partner Kathleen A. Kirby, co-chair of the TMT Practice, is currently serving a three-year term as a member of the FCBA Executive Committee. Megan L. Brown, partner in the TMT; Privacy, Cyber & Data Governance; Appellate; and Litigation practices, is serving a three-year term as a member of the FCBA Foundation Board of Trustees.

Founded in 1936, the FCBA is a volunteer organization of about 2,000 attorneys, engineers, consultants, economists, government officials, and law students involved in the study and practice of communications and information technology law and policy. The FCBA offers a variety of opportunities for members to network and increase their understanding of developing legal, engineering, and policy issues in the broadcast, wireless, emergency communications, spectrum, and satellite broadcasting areas.
