Law360 Names Wiley Rein to 2018 ‘Best Firms for Minority Attorneys’ List

June 18, 2018

Washington DC — Law360 named Wiley Rein LLP to its 2018 list of the “Best Firms for Minority Attorneys,” based on a survey of the firm’s minority representation at the partner and nonpartner levels, and its total number of minority attorneys. Wiley Rein is one of only four major law firms in the Washington area to make the list of 74 firms recognized nationally, and the only premier DC firm named in the size category of 150-299 attorneys.

In summarizing the results of the survey, Law360 noted that the featured firms are making their ranks more diverse and inclusive, as well as achieving “measurable results” in adhering to the legal profession’s diversity ideals.

Wiley Rein’s efforts to become an industry leader in recruiting and advancing diverse attorneys include: creating pipeline initiatives to expose high school and college students to careers in the legal field; establishing internal programs and policies that promote a diverse and inclusive community; and providing a mentoring environment and professional development to retain our diverse attorneys and prepare them for leadership positions.

Law360 surveyed more than 300 U.S. firms – and international “verein” law firms with a U.S. component – about their overall and minority headcount numbers as of December 31, 2017. In calculating the rankings, Law360 first grouped firms according to size: 20-149 attorneys, 150-299 attorneys, 300-599 attorneys, and 600-plus attorneys. Firms that fell below the average in their group, according to percentages, in any of the following four categories were deemed ineligible for the ranking: (1) minority attorneys; (2) minority nonpartners; (3) all minority partners; and (4) minority equity partners. Eligible firms were then ranked using a formula that equally weights the percentages of nonpartners and total partners who are minorities.
