Wiley Achieves Perfect Score on Human Rights Campaign’s 2021 ‘Best Places to Work for LGBTQ Equality’ List

February 1, 2021

Washington, DC – For the sixth year in a row, the Human Rights Campaign Foundation (HRC) has awarded Wiley a perfect score of 100% on the Corporate Equality Index (CEI). The CEI is the nation’s foremost benchmarking survey and report measuring corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ workplace equality. In the 2021 survey, 767 major U.S. businesses achieved a top score on the prominent list.

The 2021 CEI rates companies and top law firms on detailed criteria in four key areas: nondiscrimination policies across business entities; equitable benefits for LGBTQ workers and their families; supporting an inclusive culture; and corporate social responsibility.

Over the past year, Wiley has continued its advocacy and support of LGBTQ rights in a landmark civil rights case before the U.S. Supreme Court. A team of Wiley attorneys, working on behalf of numerous advocacy groups, successfully persuaded the Court that employers may not discriminate against LGBTQ individuals in the workplace in the landmark ruling in Bostock v. Clayton County.

In 2020, Wiley also hired its first Chief Diversity Officer, Rashida MacMurray-Abdullah, to develop and implement policies, programs, and initiatives that promote and sustain a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace as well as support the firm’s efforts to recruit, retain, and promote attorneys of diverse backgrounds in key leadership roles at Wiley.

In addition to robust programs, policies, and benefits, several groups at the firm support diversity efforts, including the LGBTQ & Allies Lawyers affinity group, led by Duane C. Pozza. This is just one among many affinity groups geared to provide connection and support to diverse communities within the firm.

The Human Rights Campaign Foundation is the educational arm of America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer people.
