Wiley Rein Named Top Firm for LGBTQ Workplace Equality by Human Rights Campaign

November 10, 2017

Washington, DC – The Human Rights Campaign Foundation (HRC) has awarded Wiley Rein LLP a perfect score of 100% for the third consecutive year on its 2018 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), a national benchmarking survey on corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ workplace equality. Only 609 major U.S. businesses earned top marks on this year’s prestigious list. Wiley Rein was one of 127 law firms nationally, and 12 law firms in the Washington, DC area, that received a 100% score.

“We’re proud to be recognized once again with a top score by the Human Rights Campaign,” said Wiley Rein Managing Partner Peter D. Shields. “We’re always striving to achieve a welcoming environment for all, including LGBTQ and other diverse attorneys and staff.”

Wiley Rein embraces diversity and inclusion as core values – and fosters these values through professional development efforts and outreach events. This past June, for the second year in a row, Wiley Rein hosted a cocktail reception in support of LGBT Pride Month to celebrate the ongoing efforts of Washington, DC’s legal, political, nonprofit, and business communities to support, protect, and expand the rights of LGBT individuals and their families globally. And earlier this year, for the fourth consecutive year, Wiley Rein attorneys participated in the National Association for Law Placement’s Street Law Legal Diversity Pipeline Program, which encourages diverse high school students to pursue careers in the legal field.

The firm also has a number of groups that support its diversity efforts, including the LGBT & Allies Affinity Group, co-chaired by Shawn H. Chang and Floyd B. Chapman. The firm’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee, chaired by Anna M. Gomez, is comprised of attorneys from many practice areas.

The 2018 CEI evaluates LGBTQ-related policies and practices including nondiscrimination workplace protections, domestic partner benefits, transgender-inclusive health care benefits, competency programs, and public engagement. HRC is America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender equality.
