Wiley Rein Represents magicJack in Successful Acquisition by Investment Firm

Wiley Rein client magicJack VocalTec, Ltd. (magicJack) completed its acquisition by B. Riley Financial, Inc., after the companies received regulatory approval from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for the transaction.

Wiley Rein, serving as regulatory counsel to magicJack, helped persuade the FCC to approve the acquisition, which allowed the companies to close the deal on November 14.

Bennett L. Ross, a partner in Wiley Rein’s Telecom, Media & Technology Practice, led the Wiley Rein team representing magicJack in the transaction, with assistance from associate Daniel P. Brooks.

MagicJack, a leading Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) cloud-based communications company, will be managed by B. Riley’s Principal Investments subsidiary, which owns and operates United Online, Inc., a provider of value-priced Internet access services.
