February 21, 2019

Washington, DC — Wiley Rein is a proud sponsor of today’s West Coast Regional event of the 2019 Startup World Cup, held at the Plug and Play Tech Center in Sunnyvale, CA. This event is part of the Startup World Cup global competition, with regional events in 40 cities around the world, including thousands of entrepreneurs and hundreds of investors. The competition is geared to spur innovation and entrepreneurship opportunities for startup ecosystems around the world.

Wiley Rein Managing Partner Peter D. Shields, partner Anna M. Gomez, and senior public policy advisor Nova J. Daly are attending the West Coast event, where top startups will pitch their products or services to a panel of Silicon Valley judges. Startups selected as finalists at today’s competition will showcase their innovations at the Startup World Cup Grand Finale in San Francisco on May 17, where they will compete for a grand prize of $1 million in investment.

In conjunction with the West Coast competition, Wiley Rein co-hosted a salon dinner in Silicon Valley last night with Fenox Venture Capital, the organizer of Startup World Cup. Executives from top technology companies and venture funds attended the dinner, which featured a discussion on “Politics, Innovation, and Global Competition” to address government policies in the U.S. and China that could impact technological innovation.

In addition, Wiley Rein is a sponsor of the 2019 Startup World Cup Grand Finale, where attorneys from the firm will lead workshop presentations for entrepreneurs on how to develop a Washington, DC strategy and promote innovative solutions to policymakers.

Startup World Cup is chaired by Anis Uzzaman, the general partner, founding member, and CEO of Fenox Venture Capital. Past speakers and judges at Startup World Cup have included Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, LinkedIn founding CEO Reid Hoffman, and Netflix co-founder Marc Randolph.
