Wiley Rein’s Megan Brown Profiled by Law360 as ‘Rising Star’ for Telecommunications
Washington, DC —Megan L. Brown, a standout partner in Wiley Rein’s highly rated Telecom, Media & Technology Practice, was profiled as a 2017 “Rising Star” by Law360, which named her one of the nation’s top three telecommunications attorneys under 40.
Law360 noted that Ms. Brown, in one of the biggest cases of her career, represented CTIA and the Wireless Infrastructure Association in successfully petitioning the Fourth Circuit to uphold a 2014 Federal Communications Commission order aimed at speeding nationwide deployment of next-generation broadband services. The case, which provided her the opportunity to gain technical education in wireless technologies, explored the important question of “whether the government should get out of the way and help the private sector do what it needs to do” in expanding wireless infrastructure, according to Ms. Brown.
Asked to share one of her proudest moments as a lawyer, Ms. Brown recalled her work at the U.S. Department of Justice, where she served as counsel to Attorneys General Michael Mukasey and Alberto Gonzales from 2007 to 2008. She helped manage department priorities, “deal with congressional oversight, and respond to varied policy questions” according to the article.
Ms. Brown arrived at Wiley Rein to practice law at the intersection of the private sector and government, and her skills in the telecommunications sphere developed organically from that point. “It just so happened that the place where I was working on how government interacts with the private sector was the best telecom firm in the country, so it was a natural fit,” she said.
On advice for young lawyers, Ms. Brown said working on diverse cases helped her to become a more well-rounded attorney. She also noted that the most impressive associates are those who go above and beyond their assigned duties to identify issues that senior colleagues may not have foreseen. “It’s not just checking the boxes on what you ask them to do, but it’s showing a commitment to the client or to you, to really jump in with both feet in the matter,” she said.
