Wiley Rein’s Scott McCaleb Profiled by Law360 as ‘Government Contracts MVP’

December 2, 2019

Washington, DC Scott M. McCaleb, co-chair of Wiley Rein’s Government Contracts Practice, was profiled by Law360 as a 2019 “MVP” in Government Contracts. Recognized as one of the top three lawyers in his practice area on this prestigious national list, Mr. McCaleb was chosen for his pivotal role in successfully defending Wiley Rein client Boeing in an Eighth Circuit appeal over wrongful termination, as well as helping persuade the government not to intervene in False Claims Act lawsuits involving the firm’s clients, among other matters.

Wiley Rein’s representation of Boeing in a technology investment agreements dispute was highlighted by Law360 as a significant accomplishment in 2019. Tapping into Wiley Rein’s intellectual property experience was a key factor in securing a win before the Armed Services Board of Contract Appeals.

“Bringing together folks from different groups to provide a result for our clients was probably my biggest success this year,” Mr. McCaleb said.

He also noted that a team of Wiley Rein partners, especially Jon W. Burd, Scott A. Felder, and Tracye Winfrey Howard, provided crucial assistance on the matters highlighted by Law360. “The thing I am most proud of over the course of this year is seeing how truly outstanding the folks who have supported me have been,” Mr. McCaleb said. “They made life easier for me for sure.”

When asked what motivates him, Mr. McCaleb pointed to the complexity of the cases he’s asked to work on by in-house counsel. “In those instances, trying to find a solution to business problems through a legal mechanism really motivates me to go to work each day,” he said.

Mr. McCaleb said his advice for junior attorneys is to take advantage of every opportunity, whether it’s examining a witness, taking a deposition, or speaking at a conference. Each opportunity “may lead to bigger and better things for you and your career,” he said.
